Nuclear ladies delight,
The housewife in the atomic days of the Fifties was the ultimate self for manufactures to sell their harvest to and what better place than her kitchen, didn’t each home need new appliances, furniture, affect schemes, lighting and especially gadgets to make all so unforced, well, that was the look excellent. The two hundred plus peculiar pictures in this book provide a backward (even if in effect superficial) glance at what was on place forward.
Sorry to say this book is a sequel to the publisher’s before title ‘Atomic Home’ (ISBN 1888054891) and like that book it has the same faults, small blocks of copy that don’t tell to the photos on the same page, none of the images are out-of-date (would it really take too much effort to say that the painting on page thirteen is a Saturday Evening Post cover for September twelve, 1959?) pictures overlap each other, painted backgrounds and shapes (with a different affect on each apply, too) frequently get as much space as the elucidatory clarification.
Of the three chapters the one ardent to Gadgets and Accessories is the most intriguing, thousands of small companies crosswise the State must have churned out handy gadgets and very uniquely they all seemed to be sold in dreadfully calculated packaging. Odd the way style is…the once thorough tacky and lavish kitchen designs of the 1950′s are now hot among collectors and homeowners now as all is vacant retro. Walk into a Target pile and see how they’ve adopted to the look of the 1950′s with their brightly painted new appliances and gadgets. I guess after being of having all life so uniform and style not mattering, people are over again looking to flavor up their homes with affect. “Atomic Kitchen” is a fantastic fund of allusion for people looking to capture that retro look, or just take a glimpse back in time some 50′s being ago to see what homemakers of the time had available to them.
The book starts with an initiation to…the kitchen and points out how the kitchen came to exchange the family grate as the inner gathering place for acquaintances and family. As new, less vital homes were built in the 1950s, the dining room was evenly replaced with a larger kitchen in diplomacy to serve both functions of preparing food and intake it. Wow! What a fun and fascinating book. It brought back many delightful memories as I was a childish girl in the 1950s with a Protect that absolutely loved to cook. I was especially tickled to see the “sandwich toaster”. Protect used to make all types of tasty sandwiches by that doohickey! If you delight in figurines, you won’t want to miss this book.
